Blue Cross Blue Shield Bronze Health Insurance Plans in Michigan

Bronze plans are the budget tier of the individual and family lineup: the lowest monthly price in exchange for higher out-of-pocket costs when you need care. Two of the four options (006 and 104) are HSA eligible, adding a tax advantage on top of the low price. Bronze suits healthy people without regular medications who mainly want protection from catastrophic medical bills.

Blue Advantage Plus Bronze 104

Our usual starting recommendation. It is HSA eligible, carries a lower deductible and out-of-pocket maximum than the other Bronze options, and as a “Plus” plan it includes some out-of-network benefit despite the HMO chassis, useful if your preferred doctor sits outside the core network.

Who Should Pick a Bronze Plan?

Pick Bronze

If you visit the doctor rarely, want low premium health insurance in Michigan, and can absorb the deductible in a bad year, treating the plan as catastrophic protection, ideally funded through an HSA.

Step up to Silver

If you take prescriptions monthly or see a specialist regularly; the math on our coverage guide shows the break-even.

Check subsidies first

With a tax credit applied, a Silver plan sometimes has a lower total cost than Bronze. We run both quotes side by side.

Prescription Drug Utilization Programs

Specialty Pharmacy

Certain high-cost specialty medications must be filled through a designated specialty pharmacy to be covered at the plan benefit.

Member Pay the Difference

If you choose a brand drug when a generic equivalent exists, you pay the copay plus the cost difference between the two.

Prior Authorization & Step Therapy

Some drugs require prior approval, or trying a lower-cost alternative first, before the plan covers them.

90-Day Mail-Order

Maintenance medications can be filled in a 90-day supply through mail order, often at a lower per-month cost.

BCBSM Dental Plans

Add dental and vision for the whole family: $50 deductible per individual ($150 family maximum), waived for preventive services, with a $1,000 orthodontia benefit for children under 19 and a 31-day enrollment window after your health plan starts.

What is the Blue Cross Blue Shield bronze plan?

It is the cheapest metal tier under the Affordable Care Act, covering the same benefits as higher tiers but with a larger share of early costs on you. The Blue Cross bronze lineup includes four HMO plans, two of them HSA eligible.

Each step up trades a higher monthly bill for lower deductibles and copayments. Gold suits frequent care, Silver fits moderate use, Bronze rewards rarely-sick households. An hour with a licensed agent, or one quote session, settles which tier prices best for your age and county.

HMO plans cover the Blue Advantage network; the Plus versions add limited out-of-network benefits. If keeping a specific primary care provider matters, tell us first and we will confirm network status before you enroll. Anyone 65 or older should compare Medicare options instead, and employer groups belong on our group coverage page.

Priority Health, HAP, McLaren, Ambetter/Molina and others compete in most counties for 2026. As an independent agency we quote every health insurance company at once; start at our individual health insurance hub.
